How Lucky I was to drag my husband to a flea market on vacation. We both fell in LOVE with Kelly's work. Love at first sight for both of us ( my husband and I for Kelly's work). I really wanted the whole shebang. I wanted the shed and kaboodle but had to settle for a brilliant fun loving painting. Seriously I might sell a kidney to have his whole shed/studio deal. The secret surprise was Kelly's book "Absurdity is my Friend". His poetry is funny and sincere, I could feel the experiences. He bravely voices thoughts I hide deep and exposes sneaky truths. I can't wait to hang my trickster painting and watch them dance into my life. Yep, I am sould. The man oozes creativity into his shed, work and spelling! was submitted by Mercedes, Longmont on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 7:01pm

Willa Cather describes a new painting of yours: "The Bishop and his Vicar were riding through the rain in the Truchas mountains. The heavy, lead-coloured drops were driven slantingly through the air by an icy wind from the peak. These raindrops, Father Latour kept thinking, were the shape of tadpoles, and they broke against his nose and cheeks, exploding with a splash, as if they were hollow and full of air. The priests were riding across high mountain meadows, which in a few weeks would be green, though just now they were slate-coloured. On every side lay ridges covered with blue-green fir trees; above them rose the horny backbones of mountains. The sky was very low; purplish lead-coloured clouds let down curtains of mist into the valleys between the pine ridges. There was not a glimmer of white light in the dark vapours working overhead--rather, they took on the cold green of the evergreens. Even the white mules, their coats wet and matted into tufts, had turned a slaty hue, and the faces of the two priests were purple and spotted in that singular light." was submitted by just B, on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 4:36pm

Hi Kelly I wrote before a year or 2 ago...I LOVE how you write to the lady from MOMA... I finally have been medically retired(FIRED) from a work injury that happened in 2003 and have had my 3 rd spine surgery most recent a discectomy and spinal fusion at C5 and C6 had a Spinal Fusion at L4 and L5...I seen you paint once and have been a fan ever since... It was at the Flea Market .... i really enjoyed your process of creating, i am an artist too... i love your dark birds and i love how you have created your own style and have stuck with it through all the years i have been following you... I want to prospect for gold and pursue a dream to a claim i have in Norther California... but I also want to live in Santa Fe... I was spell bound by the place ever since i visited... I want ti write a letter to ann off moma for you... You ahould have a fucking solo for god sake i think your work is important and modern as well as traditional and tribal... I love your work and it is IMPORTANT WORK.. it would be a shame that it would become realized after you were gone... keep creating the dark birds and beautiful visions brother and share this letter with MOM or any other fine artist institutions.... The best museums i have ever been to are places like the flea market where i quietly watched you paint... it was trully insoiring and humpling watching you spread oily paint from a small can and rake it across the canvas with a small makeshift rake rather than a brush or palette knife... I was very inspired and when i now create i try not to be so confined to what is supposed to be used to create beauty and ART. THANK YOU KELLY I HOPE TO MEET YOU AGAIN IN LIFE AND BY YOU LUNCH. Hey Kelly, you're the only writer who makes me laugh so thanks for sharing your cosmic jokes with us all. I see comments from other Seattle-area folk here & have long suspected a psychic link between Seattle & Santa Fe, kind of a balancing of polarities. Plus we have crows here so smart they make people uneasy. "The Light Holders" swept me away--it's transcendent! Blessings! was submitted by Ramona, Seattle on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 6:22pm

Hello there. Stopped by your art shack for the first time last Sunday. Am down here from N. Minnesota on a FEMA deployment to help folks recover from floods. After looking at disaster damage everyday for past couple of weeks, visiting your place made me feel good. One impression I had was that a lot of the small shining objects that I suspect the Ravens appropriated from my shack in the Great North Woods somehow wound up at your shack here in New Mexico. Do Crows bring you things? Can't prove it, of course, a lot of stuff looks alike, but there may be a link between my Ravens and your Crows. God only knows that I find various trinkets scattered about that I have no clue where they came from. At any rate, those things look much better in your shack than at mine. Maybe I will put some more stuff out for the birds when I get home. Yours, Geopoet. I was introduced to your work this week by Eric. Fell in love at the first glance. Thank you for what you do. I think maybe you work with G-d to show us the beauty of this crazy world. Don't know how to say it better. Then I got to paint a dead cowboy face on Eric for his party tonight. What fun! He promised me photos with the cowboy hat and skeleton suit. (fingers crossed, waiting and hoping...) Please pardon the less-than-coherent writing. It's late and I can't sleep so I googled to find your web site and drink in more of your soulful art. Ack! It's a book! Lo siento. was submitted by Holly, Tucson on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 12:54am

Dear Kelly & Kat, I really enjoyed the Cimarron tale & picx. I spent a night at St. James years ago but did not sleep much. Noise coming most of the night from the bar below. When I mentioned it to the clerk next morning, she acted kind of evasive & said, oh it was those boy scouts from Philmont. Boy Scouts? In the bar? I think it was the outlaw ghosts whooping it up. was submitted by Ramona, Seattle on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 11:00am

Humble homage to the Fleaman! There is a wild man who brings fire to my creative spirit A fire that shines in the darkness of my unclaimed thoughts A shaman who brings spirits and humans together again through images and words Unleashing songs to the gods through his brushes that never seem silent He dances with the uninhabited rhythm of the mountain nymphs and lions His appetite for life at the flea and the people that join in the red dusty rave is contagious The words that he spits from his soul are like fire cauterizing the wounds of the modern day man and woman He gives me hope that someday I will recapture the spirit of my wild and I will begin again to live from my heart and my head will follow (I just received Absurdity is my friend as a gift to my soul as I once again return to New Mexico and set up my studio. Each morning, I rise with my cup of coffee and munch on your words and images from your books. You have no idea what they bring to a fellow artist that is trying to create the passageway back home to the ethers where the soul waits patiently tending the embers of the ancients.) was submitted by Spiritpathwalker, Las Vegas (the first one) on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 6:43am

It walked slowly up the two front steps and across the small stoop. It walked across the threshold, down the short hall, and across the kitchen floor. Slowly, it made its way up the side of the kitchen counter, and finally came to rest in the sink. And there it was when I came back into the kitchen. Lester is fine, and has returned to his home under the front porch, but I think that soon he'll join the other male tarantulas on their annual fall migration to find a female to mate with. I guess my dogs wished to respect Lester's right to find a partner, because they never budged, whimpered, or in any way indicated that an arachnid the size of Michigan had entered their abode. I thought that was sweet. Anyway, you and Kat know your art is awesome, and when I grow up, I intend to grace my walls with some of your pieces. Thanks for letting me see your art for free. I'm pretty sure Lester's abode is big enough that he could hang some of your pieces in it, as well. Thanks again, and take care! was submitted by Lea-Marie Sky, Quay, NM on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 7:22pm

I don't know if you remember this, but i came to the flea at the beginning of the summer and i was taking pictures of your shed and you asked if i wanted a present, and then gave me a copy of your book. I think it was one of the best days of the whole summer for that reason... random acts of kindness, you know? I was working at the opera in the costume shop, i was working a lot so i never got a chance to come back to the flea but i still haven't forgotten that. I told everyone about your shed and your paintings and about the puzzle pieces on the floor and how they had to go, so hopefully they did. Do you know the quote "a clubhouse is all you need if you've got love"? It makes me think of your shed! Anyway, hope it's been an inspiring couple of months since then, and thanks again for the book :) was submitted by Sam Jacobson, everywhere on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 6:59pm

I am so thrilled to have received your book 'Absurdity Is My Friend' by winning it over at Seth Apter's blog. You, my dear man, are a brilliant artist! Kudos to your fabulous book. You are as good as Picasso in your own right. Love the colors, the surface textures, everything. I would have loved to have had your signature, but maybe you were off with mother nature at the time in another part of the country. My brother, Troy Howell is a professional artist and I know how much time is involved in the process of creating art. Bless you in all you do! Kelly, I was at the car shop in the waiting room about a year or so ago and I started a conversation with a woman that was waiting, too. We started talking about the format of the newspaper and how we both disliked it. Come to find out that it was your mom! She gave me the info on your website and I had to check it out. You do very interesting work, I must say. I found the web address in some papers and told my son to check your site out as well. He's quite an artist and thought he'd be interested in your work. I live in Centerton, which is west of Bentonville. Alice Walton created Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Maybe, you could put some of your art there. I'm not sure how you go about doing that, but it's worth a shot. Take care and keep on creating! was submitted by Tahmra Grame-Reeves, Centerton, AR on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 4:04pm

After honeymooning in Santa Fe in 1995, we finally made it back to take our kids to our favorite spot - the flea market. Your living shed is captivating and inviting...all feel welcome, the beautiful, the grotesque, the rich & trendy, the very, very average. Grateful my daughter, a budding photographer, got to see your living art. Thank you for a taste of authenticity. was submitted by J, Tulsa on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 8:01am

The pictures of the wolves are beautiful and your painting thought provoking. I can relate to the comments feeling a bit bitter about circumstances. I am working as hard as I can raised my self out of poverty to feel now like a slave. Take calls every day from people ripped off by the system and dying freezing or starving in their homes. But they are still listening and believing the media and Sarah Palin. I will loose my home this year and may have to pay taxes on the gift I give the bank of the money i borrowed based on their value of my house that has now collapsed due to thier greed and lending negative nothing to people that can't pay pay for it and want to live the visoin of the American dream they see on TV. I just want a place to sleep tonight. So I can go to work tomorrow and take calls for people worse off than me so I can stay sane and still believe in my American dream You are right never give up. Where did Martin Luther King go and John Kennedy and John Lennon and Mother Theresa my real heros there are no more real heros just media creations was submitted by Tammy Voisine, Santa Fe on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 8:10pm

I was in your gallery on Canyon Road last May on my first trip West of the Mississippi. Your art intrigued, disturbed and inspired me. I especially like your crows/ravens. This fall a cacophany of crows crossed my path one afternoon; there had to be over a hundred. I have never seen a flock that large and I've been watching for 40 years. I had the thought that they had joined together followed me from new mexico to new hampshire. Keep on painting; I'm sure I'll be back to Canyon Road someday. (Also went to Canyonlands and Chaco on same trip...speechless I am about them both and other places I went; you're lucky to be there so close to see them through the seasons!) was submitted by Debora, Rochester, NH on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 9:00pm

Kelly....the "High Desert Trickster is phenomental! And Tom Watson' words are incredibly right on target! I'm sorry I haven't been to the flea yet this year to watch you paint and carry on an inane conversation as I watch you add paint, scrape it off and wonder....how would one have the courage to do that? I don't know when the flea closes but hope to get there again this year. You are definitely the highlight for me! was submitted by stephanie K., albuquerque on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 5:56pm

Kelly is a blast, I want to hang out at the Flea just to see what he is up to next. He is startelingly inspirational. After a visit to the shed I want to make lots of art. As well as do a bit of exploring. The interior and not so interior landscapes in and around us. I declare, he is an inspiration of the craziest kind. Do not miss an opportunity to visit the shed at the Flea and talk to him. Listen to his words. He is bold, witty, daring, in the moment, wise, smart and talented. Kelly may look like long haired artist type guy just hanging out at the Flea and some old alley in Santa Fe sticking some paint on canvas or whatever because that probably is truth, but don't underestimate a coyote/tricker type character, he might just have you fooled-or not! was submitted by Narra, right here on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 9:18am

Hi Kelly. Your poetry about the bones in the desert and whether the land remembers us reminded me of some lines in the book "Out of Africa" by Isak Dinesen, in which she expresses sadness that she must leave her farm in Kenya and the African animals she's grown to love, and she wonders whether the giraffe and the lion will recall that she was once there. That always makes me cry. Our connections seems so fragile, yet I believe something remains in the memory of the land. Thanks for this thoughtful newsletter. was submitted by Ramona, Seattle on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 9:31am

well, lets see I have never done this before-I am an Art historian with a degree from Oxford,UK so this makes me one of those "sophisticated types?" and I have several of Kelly's works (paintings, doll's) Both K.Haring and Basquiat were aware of the New York art world and the business of art-Does this make them any less important? Or Edging? Kelly's work is genuine and honest and if you speak to him you would know this- was submitted by kim, oakland, ca on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 8:43am

Kelly, ignore the well meaning lady that thinks you should give up your "act". What she seems not to understand is that among the many things that art is, it is entertainment. I suppose she would have told Picasso to give up his "act"; Salvador Dali to give up his "act". Your "act" is a part of your art and I'd bet you're selling more art for more money and have a larger following than many artists that would never "stoop" to selling their work in a flea market. You and Ms. Livingood do some mighty nice work. was submitted by Robert Hudnall, Lubbock, Texas on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 8:53pm

WTF? Love your work, own some of your work, and last time I checked I was neither a teenager nor "not too bright". And not to brag but I also did win my sixth grade spelling bee. Just sayin'. In art, through art, out of art...wonder why the "out" part. Follow your heart Kelly, because that's what I see in your work and that's what makes it so compelling. was submitted by BG, Not a big one on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 4:48pm

Hi Kelly, I own your art and im not stupid or shallow as the lady below describes me. She clearly doesnt understand what sort of trickster you are but then most of the world is rather literal wouldnt you say? Keep tripping those folks up with your misspells! (by the way she misspelled immense) was submitted by Joseph Carter, podunk on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 1:56pm

So what the fuck is "REAL ART" anyway. I own two of Kelly's pieces and I think they are awesome. Sometimes it makes you think sometimes you don't wanna think and they still are awesome. For the alleged art critics here I suppose you could call a basic landscape or a portrait of an old dead white patriot (yaaaaaawn) art but that is for the mooncalf (look it up)underwhelmed narcissist. Devil worshiper? You say that like it is a bad thing.....I am sure your are confident in your own mythology. Cheers! was submitted by David, Santa Fe on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 1:16pm

Kelly, I'll be short and sweet. You have emense talent. Raw, yes. OUTSIDE. Much potential for evolution. But you have got to drop the poor grammer/spelling/I'm not too bright schtik. It's a deterent from your true gift. You can grow up and yet still stay YOUNG and vibrant (like your work). But if you stick with this "act" you will NEVER rise above the adoration of teens and those who are truly not bright. A sharp mind = power and FLIGHT. Show the world what you've got. Good luck to you.... Love, from one who has been in -and through- and out of the business of ART. was submitted by the DA, The Big Apple on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 2:09pm

I'm afraid of you, like I'm afraid of myself. You are a ghost. I saw ye, yes, I saw you. I'm stuck between this two buildings, oh, how I envy you. The sundowns, and the red,... out of mind, out of my collages. I am scared that you will come one morning in black shabby cillinder on my doorstep, and said: "No other way, this is desert speaking." And I will pack my things, and left two cooking eggs on the stove, and open the window little, that air circulate to their heads, sleeping heads of my two children, lullaby grown up heads. Lots of my old shoes will make noise, they will argue between themselves. So there, I will make turn to step out, but already on the doorsteps instead of you I will see blue steps which are leading on the upper floor. Still I'm scared of my beautiful scary self... was submitted by Silva, Zagreb, Croatia on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 1:38am

Mr. Moore, So here I sit in my living room, recently painted Moroccan Red, and I know that there is divine intervention somewhere. The painting that Sheila purchased for our eleventh anniversary displayed on our wall seems to take on even more of a special meaning to me and our family. The colors and the "dreaminess" of the figures is a constant call for pause to think of Turquoise Trail car rides, West Mesa sheets of rain and a birthplace so achingly far away. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. You have honored us. Eric Saavedra was submitted by Eric Saavedra, Missouri (dreaming of NM) on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:23pm

Hi Kelly just letting you know it was a real pleasure to meet you at your shed at the flea market last fall. Ive been a fan of outsider art for sometime and I dont if you are categorizable but after seeing some of the poser outsiders or "visionary" artists like Anne Grgich of my hometown or even someone who claims to be an outsider artist (and then is represented by some highflying New York art gallery as well)I can definitely say I think you are a true artist. Keep up the good work and hope to be out to New Mexico again next fall. was submitted by Jack Thompson, Seattle on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 8:35am

Stunning black bird artwork mixed with the photgraphy. Glad I took the time to take a peek. Keep on doing what you do, Kelly. (would love just one closeup of your face for once) was submitted by Chris, Oak Harbor on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 9:51am

You must tell us which company sold you this mattress so we can avoid it. It's part of the ranting deal. was submitted by Jen, Santa Fe on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 9:12am

At first when I read the 'dear moma", I read that you could "hit that guy big time" and I thought that sounded about right but when I reread it - correctly the second reading, I was wrong. You ment if you could meet that guy you could hit "it" big time. But it still looked to me like someone should be hit. anyway it made me smile. was submitted by patty, in the desert on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:34pm

“She-woolf LaCyanna stood alone in a wilderness of the two-leggeds, far from her pack the journey had taken her. Ache she did for that which was familiar. Torment,to live among creatures where non resemble the wild-free-self From the darkness come the sounds of a lone cry from Kiotee And her spirit did soar and dance in the deep reflection of his yowl She-woolf LaCoyanna, was wrong never was she alone, simply lost.” (Twanaqua ,1996) Thank you Kelly for Erurption, words fail me to express my appreciation for your work. was submitted by LIz, Emporia on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 7:07am

Its rather easy to dismiss your attempt to land an exhibition at the Museum of Modern art as a lark or something silly but im beginning to see the mark of a serious bit of contemporary art which will eventually land Kelly Moore either in the MOMA or something better. Good luck Kelly your perserverance and talent is inspiring. was submitted by lover of Kelly Moore art, Boston Mass on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 11:38am

INCREDIBLE! one of the tremendous things artists do is to express parts of ourselves that the average person CAN NOT EXPRESS in their daily life. in KELLY i see the truth in brokeness and how to have the courage to express it. kelly is a "crack-pot" , opening the way to the knowledge of existence. a very very difficult way of being, but one we instinctively realize thru great artists, sportspeople etc.. the struggle for truth and existence often seem contradictory, so most of the time we settle for the pablum offered by the burger kings of culture. we ARE the NWO. without us they couldn´t exist on this plain. apparently it is also true of the "devil"- and "god". hey kelly, write to me. love to all. was submitted by william meyer, expat in south america on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 8:44am

Hi Kelly I was glad to meet you at the flea. (My mom is Monica's biggest customer.) Your book is fabulous. I giggled the whole way home on the plane, the art is earthy yet ethereal. Your poetry, humorous yet droll. How's that for some artsy fartsy talk? I really dig your new mexican chile. Julee was submitted by julee morrow, fort worth on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 8:20pm

Hey Kelly. Your big oily Land Sea and Air is now stretched, framed and a hanging. Takes up the whole freaking wall and I love it! My pleasure to have met a "free" artist who spells liek u. Your work knocked me and Pat out. We attended that big national oil painters of America art exhibition and conference at the Sage Creek Gallery for some free wine cheese and fine snobbery and didn't see anything better than your art dood. Maybe cause I'm Scotch Irish too and still crazy after sooo many years I am drawn to your work. Cya next time out maybe this fall. A delight to meet you and your work at the flea today, and then a gluttonous inspiration to scroll through your formidable collection of quips. I can't believe I read the whole thing, either, but am waiting to see what it does in my dreams tonight. Thank you for ever pushing the ever-expanding envelope of your universe, and thus everyone's. A dirty job but someone's gotta do it. Just keep listening and continue to ignore irrelevant comments about hues, tones, and the picture plane. On the third hand, you've made it quite clear no one should confuse Outsider with Naive so you can learn as much as you damn well please about manipulating what the viewer experiences. Keep up the good work and feel loved. was submitted by Lucy Cornwell, Pojoaque, NM on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 9:26pm

Your book is great! I literally laughed out loud about the sissy and dolls page and I wish you would have put a photograph of yourself in there that wasn't all smeared up! The painting on page 63 is beautiful, I love it ... and I think your spider art was charming (for a spider anyway, sooo not a fan). Too bad it didn't go over well. I see some folks in there have horns, and some have upside down crowns ... hmmm, pret-ty telling. Its way past time for you to still be thinking all women are angels, but I have to admit, I never thought you a devil. Devil-ish, maybe. Your put a lot into your paintings - I could look at one again tomorrow and still find a new little detail I missed today. The MMoMA museum sure doesn't like you very well ... but no less than I expect from a guy who apparently can get a person so riled up that they burn up his car! I am very proud of you. was submitted by Margaret, Fayetteville AR on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 8:21pm

Thank you for the wonderful book Kelly...it is indeed outrageous and beautiful all at once and I look forward to seeing the Metropolitan Museums collection of your crow paintings next week as I will be there! was submitted by John Sulzer, New York on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 8:17am

Hi Kelly, I received my book yesterday and what can I say...I am completely blown away, have read through it several times already and plan to order a few more for some friends who I know will really appreciate your work. I've been following your art/writing for a few years (and cherish my crows!) but seeing the paintings and words together just has incredible, alchemical impact. Your passion is clear, and awe-inspiring. Thank you for sharing these pieces of yourself and shining your light on the fact that sometimes it's much more about the moment and the impulse than the plan. So forget the oatmeal, I think I'll have a bad-for-me chocolate donut for breakfast...just because. was submitted by Ms. Jez, Hell's Kitchen on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 7:18am

a note to the artist ~ kelly The premise of your book is intriguing and has me asking “what if” . . . so many distinct yet same/different notions fused together and the ingenuity is awesome ~ your words are beyond sufficiently different from anybody else’s . . If there were a room ~ it would be a nice place to explore . . . And thats just the words ~ Your art and words combine to expel the idea that language and art do not complement one another Or that one draws away from the other They are feisty and compelling and prove that a love affair exists between them and that Sin leads to redemption ~ possibly the best idea ever to erupt from the insanity of any religion Unlike most writing ~ your theme is anything but dull What is best about the book is it allows a sidelong glance into the thoughts of an extraordinarily compelling man thank you for this rivers of best wishes nancy jo was submitted by nancyjo, bridgeton on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 6:04pm

if you understand the difference between love and sanity buy the book the pages of Eruption are lined with passion insight and extraordinary vision who said words and art cannot dance they combine into a compelling tango in kelly's book if you wonder where the magic went Eruption the magic is in the words ~ it is in the absence of fear of color in the paintings the magic is in the brutal confrontation of everything we fear it is remarkable nancyjo was submitted by nancyjo, bridgeton on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 5:35pm

I see something happening in the paintings with the horses. Unfortunately the angels destroy the mystique of the horses in the tapestry background. I see the emergence of horses and the desert landscape as being a sustainable motif for an enduring body of work. "Sorry but this is not art. Anyone could do this after two months of art practice and most could do better." Quoted from below ! In fact art is not "proper" art which it why it is called outsider art. It is outside normal art convention. Kelly Moore admits to producing some shit but when I look at other Outsiders only Lyle Carbajal is worth looking at. If Kelly Moore has only 10 good works(and he does) then that is 10 more than 99% of other Outsider Artists. was submitted by Artist, UK on Monday, February 23, 2009 at 4:19pm

here's my poem of mesa verde for you--i could barely see, it was just past dusk. a striped, smoke-bottomed puddy-tat glided past my foot, looking for a hotdog with mustard. quietly, it sniffed around my tent as i held my breath. please, i prayed, don't share your perfume... i am going to let myself have more fun with my website cause yours is awesome. ty www.villaparkhearts.com was submitted by Angelina Chica, Olympia on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 8:22pm

Sorry but this is not art. Anyone could do this after two months of art practice and most could do better. In the plight to be original, outsider artists just consume their own oxygen , until, in a vacuumm of their own making, they pass out, for want of a breath of air. was submitted by Proper Artist, The World on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 3:59pm

Great stuff,Kelly Moore,a real gem to find, seems to come more from the inside, than the outside.Liked the visual work, the poetry, also enjoyed the negative comments in your guestbook, gave me a wee laugh. Its great to see that the ignorance the American government is known so well for around the world, permeates throughout that great land,im sure Hitler feels proud.Yellow Belly did make a good point on 3rd of May 2005,and of corse Yellow Belly is allowed his opinion...so keep it up,il be returning to see more of this wonderful stuff, which has given me both enjoyment and inspiration,Thankyou,The Greyhorse,Ireland. was submitted by Liam Breen, on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 12:48pm

I wish you would stop sticking shit to your art and just paint. Your best stuff was 2005 and you should return to this theme. You are taking too many diversions in the pursuit of originality. You established originality in 2005.Just keep producing the same ilk ,like many artists do.Look at Francis Borg ; Great artist , same format all the time.Repetition is no sin. Thereare plenty of people who buy the paintings if they are consistent within a theme. You got great talent; don't piss it on sticking bone to canvas. was submitted by An Artist, on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 3:19pm

Someone said here that Kelly Moore's work was not original and that all art is just something copied from the past. This is like saying, if you want to be a professional boxer ,you must not follow any technique of previous great boxers. I see in Kelly Moore's work a reflection of Jean Dubuffet. "Amateur" is an example of this idea. However, the execution of the work is nothing other than brilliant ; a masterpiece of Raw Art. Kelly Moore has done the best in art and that is to borrow and then to ad originality . was submitted by James Sutherland, South Shields , Newcastle upon Tyne ,UK on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at 2:32am

.......im a bum and i paint sometimes.....i live in the far north of new zealand in the middle of nowhere!!!.......on a beach!!!......it gets very lonely here.....and its easy to lose your way......thankyou for being a roadsign of hope along the way......and a light in the darkness........i had a vision of a past life a few years back.......i was an indian in your fair land of america.......after that vision.....i realised why i had found this life so hard to live!!.....there are no 'elders' with their wisdom.....and guidelines for harmonious living!!!....where are the elders i mumbled for days afterward???
....for a few years before my 'indian life vision' i had been seeing rainbows around the sun......big ones.....clear ones....beautiful, yet strange.....i was always with someone else when i saw them.......and pointed them out.....it was as if...no one else was seeing them!!!!......well...after my indian past life vision.......a friend lent me a book of the hopi indian prophesies.....and low and behold.....they spoke of the rainbows around the sun!!!!.....the hopi said that when we saw those rainbows around the sun....that they were a sign that the 'elders' had reincarnated into all the nations of the world......dear brother Kelly.....WE ARE THE ELDERS!!!!

Kelly I met you on the Tesuque Indian reservation market last summer and continue to follow your work. I was at an "outsider art gallery" last week here in LA and was intrigued with why these "experts" in that field continue to show the same old schock while some of the best talent actually does work on the fringes of our culture unnoticed. A terrible problem to have.  I like the Blue Woman, is she still available?  My sister's birthday is the same day as yours as well as our Scotch Irish lineage.  I would be honored to display a piece of your art in my home.  Look forward to hearing from you.  Best Regards, Patrice was submitted by  Patrice on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 12:16:16

Dear Kelly Moore, as a reader of the outsider art magazine Raw Vision I would like to tell you I think you should be in touch with their magazine as your work as an outsider artist seems far more interesting than most I read and see in the magazine.  Just my opinion of course but your work has that certain something missing in alot of outsider art that takes it from novelty to truly compelling stuff.  was submitted by George V, New York City, on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 13:56:22

I find that when I come along really good artwork, my words falter. I gape; child-like in wonder, at a creation before me that evokes emotion beyond words. It may sound trite or cliché, but it's true. Good art requires no words to supplement its existence. To summarize or critique good art, well... one might as well stand on tip-toe and try to pluck the clouds from the sky. So with the few words I’ve spent here I will encourage others to come back to this place, and look, and keep looking. And Kelly, I encourage you exuberantly, to keep creating... Yo Kelly...was having lunch in Starving Artist a few weeks ago and I did spy your work across the room. More power to ya. Maybe these other bitching artists who rant on your guestbook should shut up and go get a book on marketing, and get their work out there and in galleries. your work has a childlike playful quality that seems as if it is created in a stream-of-consciousness.  Some of it reminds me of more simplified Basquiat, and yes, raw.  You are a true soul who doesn't paint things to match somebody's couch.  I believe you do it cuz you have to.  i am so picky about what i like and your work
is some of the only work that i actually want to posess.  you inspire me.

ya know there are a lot of things in this world that plain baffle me and i must admit that the kellybashers in the guest book are one of them...
i wonder if everybody gets this in their guest books and kelly just has the cojones to let them be seen by others...to bad to see wasted energy and time.  kelly has sold over 30 pieces since the beginning of the year so someone likes what he does...and pays for it, this is something many artists struggle for years and lifetimes to create. ok rant finished, carry on you green eyed bastards!!!

Your artwork is, by far, the worse I have ever seen. The shit that comes for my ass is worth more then this worthless piece of SHIT. Really now. Haven't you fucked up abstract artists realize there is nothing one bit special about this hunk of smelly shit ...? How dare you call yourself an artist? If you ain't got something nice to say.. why say something in the 1st place? It's art for  Christsake... feedback (even negative) is good as long as you back it up and help the artist evolve. I love the rawness of it, reminds me a lot of early Karel Appel (Cobra) stuff, but with plenty of own identity. was submitted by  Schizo, Amsterdam, Netherlands, Europe, on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at 11:44:20

work of artoor two or three... around this"the green eyed monster returns" ya know a take off on godzilla and all!!! but then maybe just green chunks spewed about
in jealous frothy frenzy!!! as always your chosen links are interesting, the work moves and rearranges the psyche. all in all a great place to hang out even with the visits from the envy-eyed humans!!

hi kelly.  i am not going to dis your art or anything like that.  but what i'd really love to see on your site is a little comparison between what you CAN do and what you CHOOSE to do, know what i mean?  i mean, we all know that picasso's style evolved as he became more and more well-known and respected, we know that he became more instinctive and basically just decided to do his own thing because everything he did looked great anyway and it was already established by his earliest work that he was a genius, incredibly skilled and imaginative and original.  he was able to draw realistically and very capable of creating paintings with classical compositions and detailed realism etc.  so, clearly you can paint in an abstract kind of seemingly senseless and formless way, but do you have the ability to actually draw and do something beyond what everyone else can do, which is express yourself creatively?  because if not, it's very unsettling that you have managed to make!   a good living at this while so many skilled painters are struggling to.  what's up with that?  is that like the young cute pop star who has no knowledge of music becoming filthy rich and famous while the man who can play ten different instruments and write his own music can't get a record deal to save his life?  hmmmmm............... was submitted by  ( Natalie) on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 22:54:08

Wow, Kelly – double take! I am glad I gave you “my instinctive” impression on the works posted on your home page and, did not have a chance to read the guest book. I truly wonder "if or/and how" my opinion would have been influenced!? It appears you have managed to create some kind of a raucous controversy... Which is what is causing me to get back to you. Most people are terrified of their dark side. We all have one. Everything has one. Where there is light, there is shadow… Etc., etc., etc..Personally, mine was really “unpleasant” for myself to live with. So, I have decided a long time ago, to focus and develop the “light” side of me, which still did not manage to avoid controversy and criticism. Living creatively - outside the box does that to one, no matter what!I felt a need to share with you this passage from the Man of la Mancha himself…(as I have recalled it many times since my teens) don Quixote: Are the dogs barking Sancho? Then, we are moving!(Perhaps you could find some time to visit my sites: mischiefangel.blogspot.com and almapathadventures.blogspot.com)The best to you. Do not let anyone tamper with your “soul stamina”.

I love your work. I went to art school, The School of the Art Institute at Chicago. For awhile, I couldn't paint because I was robbed momentarily of my spontaniety and creativity. I now paint like I used to paint before art school. Thank goodness! My work is considered Outsider Art, which makes me proud. Went back to my roots! You can see my work at cafepress.com/123art. Soon, my site will be completed hopefully by August 30, 2005. It's called www.hungonart.com It's not up yet. How much are your pieces? People that insult your paintings have no concept of art in my opinion. You are creative and paint from the soul. This is a true artist!

Dude, the best think anyone can do is to stay away from the "art" crowd. To many times have i seen people start being influenced by "the group" and not just doing what they want or feel. A man can be an island...and it ain't so bad. Sounds like this "Anne" is all pent up. I bet if you two ever got together, it would be like one of those classic movies where you wind up in the sack and in love. just my 2 cents

top Secret agent Maxwell Smart reporting from the Raw Vision outsider art discussion group that artist Anne Grgich kicked you out of (is she still spamming your guestbook? She seems to spend more time at your site than the Raw Vision thing. Me wonders...does she make art or just run the forum and the the brownnosers ?...now the rumor circulating in the group of spys is that she emailed you an apology, invited you to join the group again and compared you to Matt Lamb and Joe Coleman. Are you going to post that email she sent you? The irony of you being kicked out of that outsider artist group is so think I can cut it with
knife. Just my 2 cents...but staying outside this mainstream outsider art industry is probably a good thing for you. Regards, from the spy reporting from raw vision....fyi..thanks for sending the monthly Art Newsletter to me.

Amazinig how your most aggresive critics seem to be the type of folks who think the kind of art that furnishes many a Best Western suite is the only "real" art. I was once lucky enough to see an exhibition of Adolf Hitler's art collection in Weimar, Germany. Herr Fuerher clearly shared the same love of "real" art. He also fancied himself a champion of truth; will parallels never cease? To be fair, i am making virtually groundless assumptions about these people's aesthetic penchants. Some of them seem to like Picasso alot, i imagine relligious art, too (somehow i'm missing the whole "evil" thing in your work, infact, i think your piece
entitled,"Evil," isn't nearly evil enough). Anyway, your work is good. The COBRA/ Yorn comparison was pretty dead on (not in a regurgitative way). I imagine your approach is similar. It's also nice to be assured that not every painter in Santa Fe is churning out that Southwest Neo-Impressionist junk, or better/worse, some Minimalist or Abstract- expresionist rehash. And, your guestbook realy is the Jerry Springer show of artist's website guestbooks: intoxicating and addictive, disturbing and hilarious (in a creepy guilt inducing way). ps. A tip to all fierce critics: when you say someone is " no Picaso," it makes me laugh... out-loud, everytime i see it written. it really is funny. It's so absurd!

Hi Kelly...I read the post about Anne Grgich spamming your guestbook with hysterical laughter. Im in that Raw Vision group that she kicked you out of a few years ago. And I remember that whole sheebang well. So, its pretty ironic that she snoops around your site pulling email addys off your guestbook...Raw Vision and Anne Grgich are so bought and sold they dont really know a thing about what a true "outsider" really is....Im not saying you are either but I know one thing for damn sure, you arent represented by any fancy pants gallerys, and your not some important magazines pet artist and you dont charge a gillion dollars for your art
because its "important." In other words, you arent the corporate sell out slut that I smell in that huge clique called Raw Vision groups led by Anne and her brown nosers. Keep up the good work and I think you should add her name to your Email list. One more thing about that Raw Vision Group thing....She keeps saying something about the Archives at that group to get the story of her kicking your
renegade ass out. What people dont know is she personally choses what posts go in that archive and she also uses her magic pencil to edit them to her historically important needs. As the self appointed spy of the group, I will keep you updated on what happens in that group as they will inevitably discuss you as you are actually an "outsider" How could you be an outsider and even belong to that group? She has actually even been to art school from what I've read.

Ever since we exchanged links I have become fascinated with outsider art. I think I am liking it much better than art school graduate art. Your art includes your feelings and emotions. Art school graduate art is so perfected and studied looking and is boring in my opinion. I have decided to give abstract outsider art a try and I am really enjoying it. And if people don't like outsider art then they can just go look at the bowls of fruit that the art school graduates are painting. Don't ever
stop doing what your doing because of other people insulting you. They are just
jealous and wish they could do it too.

I'm rather surprised at the ire your work has invoked in a few people. My guess is that they have their pretty MFA's from art school and were brain washed by academia to think that art "movements" are what art is about. I do see the resemblance to Karel Appel and Basquiat. So what. Show me any artist's work and I'll show you another artist whose work it resembles. There is no such thing as progress in art, and originality is an illusion created by the viewer's ignorance. But originality isn't the point. Your work is terribly powerful. I had a "holy shit" moment when I saw it. That's the point, damnit. Outsider my ass--you're right on
